Ok so I recently bought myself (well it was a treat from my dad) some Derwent colour soft pencils which I'v been dying to buy, and I was itching to use them. I want to use them for something special but firstly I needed to get to grip with them. I wanted to check how they work with prismacolor and blah blah blah.
I was randomly perusing my old pictures in my gallery and I came across this: [link] A wolf I drew two years ago (which I called Khaz because I was...and still am I guess, a 'The Sight' fangirl). I liked the colours and that so I decided I would do an up to date version using the 2 years anatomy experience I obv. didnt have in that picture. Yeah so here he is. Theres layers and layers and layers of colour on this. Colour soft lets you go wild. Iv been shying away from doing any major muscle tone on my pictures because I just dont have the knowlege, but I referenced around enough to let me do some basic stuff because I really wanted to test these pencils. I used some greens and purples through the blue as well to make it have some more depth. And yeah thats about it. The tail was sooo so hard because im still not overly sure when drawing fur but im happy with how it came out. And thats about it really, I played around with the anatomy obviously, I wanted him more toon than real life...what with him being a blue and orange wolf, and I chaged his markings from what I originally had The pencils are great so smiles all round XsarahX Time: probs about 6-8 hours over three days Tools: Colour soft, prismacolour, Micron pens, mechanical pencil, acrylic and white gel pen p.s. my scanner *caned* the deepest blue colour, its so much more blended in real life, I might do a photo |

I've never used Derwents, just Prismacolors. How do Derwents differ from Prismas?

well the colour soft derwents (thers tons of different ones) are like really...soft lol like the name says. Theyre quite thick and waxy if you press hard, but they layer and layer and layer colours a lot better than primacolors do. I think by themselves they be quite messy but with other harder pencils theyre really uselfull
And I'll have to look for those next time I'm in an art store! Thanks for the info!
